D-lab Student gets selected for the IDDS 2014 Summit in Tanzania

Syed Hassan Abbas (roll number: MSCS-12030), a Master’s student at ITU-Punjab, has been selected for IDDS 2014 being held in Tanzania. The International Development and Design Summit (IDDS) is a unique, month-long, hands-on, cross disciplinary, and cross-cultural design event that brings together participants from all over the globe and focuses on co-creating low-cost technologies to improve the livelihoods of people living in poverty. Over the past eight years, IDDS has been hosted in the US (MIT), Ghana, Brazil, Zambia, and now this year it will be hosted Tanzania. This particular summit will focus on working with communities to design simple, low-cost technological solutions especially in the space of agriculture and energy. D-Lab Co-Director and MIT Professor Amy Smith started IDDS, and she will also be a lead instructor for the summit. Other Instructors include Assoc. Professor Benjamin Linder (PhD. MIT) and faculty from Colorado State University.
